Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport

The airport of Tel Aviv is located southeast of the city and northwest of Jeruzalem. There are two terminals: T1 and T3. Terminal T1 is mostly for domestic flights and budget airlines like EasyJet. Terminal T3 is intended for intercontinental flights and airlines such as KLM. There are free shuttle buses driving every 15 minutes between the two terminals. Tel Aviv Ben Gurion is the most important and busiest airport of Israël. In 2017, almost 21 million passengers traveled via Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport. The airport is equipped with the following facilities:
The distance from the airport to the centre of Tel Aviv is 25 kilometres, about a 30 minute drive. If there’s traffic it can take up to 1,5 hours. Driving from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion to Jerusalem takes about an hour.

What to do in Tel Aviv

Beautiful Israël offers everything for a perfect holiday: delicious restaurants, activities, sightseeing, bars and clubs. You can chill at the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, but you can also make a day trip to the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is very well known for its extreme salty water. The water is so salty you can float in it without any effort. Fun fact: the ‘Dead Sea’ is actually not a sea but a lake! It’s a 2 hours drive, so hiring a car is very useful. If you want to visit the Dead Sea you should hurry a little, the lake is shrinking more and more. There even are multiple black holes in the Dead Sea.
Old Jaffa is a beautiful city to discover. The historical city is known for its alleys with lots of cute eateries and shops. At the famous Carmel Market you can find aromatic herbs, fresh fruit and vegetables and sweet delicacies like baklava.
If it’s convenient you can also take your rental car to Jerusalem, the capital of Israël. Both cities are great to visit and are really different! Tel Aviv is super modern and trendy, while Jerusalem is more old-fashioned. Keep this in mind and adapt to the city, especially with your choice of clothing. Many people see Jerusalem as the holiest city in the world since both Christianity and Judaism find their origin here, and the city is sacred to Islam.

Try Israel, the center of the historical and relugious world. Use a rental car because you can see a lot of places. Buy a sim card for mobile phone from the airport. Use a travel app. Find the most important places. Read about them before you visit them.

Airport is large with lots of shops. I waited in a long line at the main duty free shop and when I arrived at my departure lounge there was a smaller one with no line. If you use a currency card ask to be charged in Shekels as they also charge in US dollars. Easy airport to walk around with good signs. You will need a sat nav or the Waze app on your phone before exiting airport. Maps will be out of date due to major new road infrastructure. If being dropped off be prepared for drivers peeping horns and cutting in. Bag check in opens 3 hours before departure.

Take your time. See as many places as possible. Let the other people hoot as much as they want. Do the right thing and drive safely. Try to avoid the rash-our traffic. Do not look and drive, rather stop and look at the beautiful places.

Be aware of toll roads and the surcharges imposed by the hire company. Can easily avoid toll roads in Israel. I would suggest you do. They are not that much quicker. You cannot pay in cash on 2 of the 3 toll roads. The website is in Hebrew with no English translation.

Terminal 3 is far better than 1. Everybody lands in 3 but low cost carriers depart from 1. The coffee and food in the terminal is OK at best, but over-priced. Currency is also better changed outside. Generally street food is fantastic in Israel. Restaurants vary but are generally expensive. Hotels are VERY expensive - use friends, swaps, or airBNB.

1. Change money in Israel, use ATM from banks 2. Rent a car from Cal Auto 3. Consider HI Hostels for accomodation 4. Avoid complex plans in Sabath 5. Be prepared to changes last minute 6. Always carry small cash with you and negotiate if it seems the first price is not justified

Before departure. Be patient: patiently answer the questions of security. Be careful: exactly know what's in your bags. You should remember everything: what cities you visited, what souvenirs you bought, from whom you accepted gifts. Keep calm and be polite )

1 Buy a yellow garage parking disc enabling you to park anywhere in Israel with out looking for change 2 Check that Museums are open on the day you plan to go. 3 Don't expect to find shops open on Saturday 4Remember that shops close early on Friday afternoons 5 A nice walk is to park your car in the car park at Tel Baruch beach and walk along the promenade beside the sea into Tel Aviv port where you can break your walk at a variety of eating places

Take advantage in getting maps and direction for your trip at the Hertz desk they are very helpful. Customer service there is great, this is our second time using them. Overall the highways In Israel are pretty nice to travel. Note the insurance provided on line from Holidayscars.com is not useable in Israel as basic insurance.
