Luca Airpirt has to be one of the easiest stress free (ish) terminals to arrive into or depart from. Staff always ready to assist and the Airport - like Malta is spotless.

Malta can be rather tricky will all those ups and down. Drife carefully, especially at blind curves. Remember to leave the brake on while parking. I suggest paradise bay, near L. Armier. I really enjoyed the freedom a rented car gives. visit all the island

Malta airport is small and rather efficient, even though we had a rather unpleasant experience with the bussiness check-in desk of Air Malta. The access by car is very easy and there are several petrol station around if you need to refill you car before returing it. Be aware, however, of the left hand side driving and of the traffic jams, unfortunately rather frequent in the island Malta is a very nice destination, you can feel the blend of cultures, find several historical remains (La Valletta, but not only there) and interesting architecture. See and beaches are lovely in Malta and even more in Gozo, if you like diving into wrecks this is also the best place in the Mediterranean sea Conference facilities in St. Julian are excellent!

Do travel to Gozo island, the ferry transfer is easy and quick. Gozo is more relaxed and there are less tourists there. Blue Hole area is wonderful for snorkeling! Also, do try the Giuseppe's Cafe & Bistro at Ghajnsielem. Driving at Malta is fairly easy, just keep up with the others and you'll be fine. Do be skeptical with Google Maps route recommendations, there is no apparent filter/selection to avoid the tiny one-lane country roads.

Airport was a breeze to exit and locate services. Would prefer rental car parking closer to terminal.

We did a one day car rental to explore Malta and it was a great decision. My best advice is just to get out and explore! Try and see both as much of the island as possible which is really quite easy. Give yourself a good 8 hour day and take your time and make plenty of stops along the way. The driving was not difficult and similiar to LA. Be a defensive driver and you’ll be fine. There are an overwhelming amount of round abouts though.

The airport is quite small, but it has everythings what you cam meed. Most of the service work all the time and you can buy your Bus card right there, on the machine or an the reception of Malta Public Transport.

Although Malta is very small, renting a car gives you a lot of freedom and allows you to spend your vacation time more efficiently. Some places are not served by bus and require hiking unless having a car. Parking is usually cheap or free, except for Valletta. Driving on the left hand side may take time to get used to (unless your are from the UK).

Video the entire car zooming in on any issues inc those already highlighted and the dash ( mileage & fuel status ) when collecting and again when returning. For your peace of mind and for evidence if required.

Spend at least one full day in Valletta. Visit the island of Gozo. Visit Mdina. Rent a car, driving throughout Malta is easy. Try local food like pastizzi, rabbit and goats cheese. Visit Malta's churches they are simply amazing, well maintained and a peaceful retreat. I would recommend Mosta. Taking a walk along the waterfront at Marsaxlokk is a must, as well as having a lovely seafood meal at one of the many restaurants.

Have a plan of where you want to go when driving in Malta. Malta is not particularly a great place to just get in a car and go driving, in my opinion. It is better to have a plan before driving anywhere. The traffic and narrows streets can make for slightly-stressful driving experiences. All drivers understand the inherent chaos with Maltese drivers, so the plus side is that often other drivers are accommodating and will allow you to slide into cramped spaces within traffic or will give way frequently. Drive to Bugibba! It's a real treat and one of the few open freeways where you can simply enjoy the views and the drive.

- Enjoy the nature and the cost line. - Avoid going into the city centres (specifically Valletta) by car. - Under all circumstances visit Gozo. - Enjoy local food. - Try to get in contact with the locals.

Traffic in Malta's main cities is very lively! Also there are full of narrow roads. So my suggestion is to take full insurance and save the nerves. Visited object is well reached by the car. To travel to the Gozo island with the car is also very convenient. If you need to return car with full tank, the petrol station is next to the airport, so don't need to worry where to find it.

Most of our time in Malta was spent in Valletta, a compact city full of interesting places to see and steeped in history. Gozo, where we were based is again a place of much interest and, in addition to the amazingly crystal clear waters in its many small beaches, has a fabulous and expansive beach at Ramla. Additionally, the magnificently restored Citadel in Victoria is well worth the climb. No visit to either Gozo or Malta, however, is complete without a boat trip to Comino and the Blue Lagoon. Equally, a visit to the Azure Window on Gozo, and a meal at the adjacent restaurant, are a must. When driving keep your wits about you and be prepared for a surprise as the Gozo drivers can be a little unpredictable.

Hiring a car was one of the best decisions we made to explore Malta and Gozo as although the buses are good and clean the traffic sometimes means they run very late and the connections are poor . The major roads are all good quality and the drivers are not as bad as some people say . Don't drive into Valletta .
