Travel to small towns on the coast. Stay in smaller hotels rather than large resorts. Visit Puebla magicas towns inland such as Comala and Tapalpa. Shop at local bodegas rather than chain stores. Learn and use some Spanish phrases and words. Enjoy the different cultures!

I'd recommend getting to the airport with about 1 1/2 hours ahead of international flight. The security wasn't super long, even on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Think about bringing a sandwich or something with you, as the food options after security are non-existent. Overall, it was great and I loved feeling the hot humid air when you arrive - such a welcome treat. The drive, too, is easy after you leave or when you arrive - quick drive to Manzanillo or Santiago. Just a wonderful start to the experience. One thing I'd keep in mind is the full list of cities that head directly to Manzanillo. We live in Seattle, so flew to LAX and then Manzanillo. But timing wise, it might have been faster and better to head from Vancouver - we had a long layover in LAX. Just something to keep in mind!
