Brought a young lady to las vegas for her first time (60 years old). Traveled the vegas strip, visited the valley of fire, hoover dam and saw bonnie and Clyde's bullet riddled car. She had a great time because of holiday cars rental and me the driver. She wants another date with both of us.

Renting a car makes seeing the sights much easier. Although parking on the strip is a very big challenge. Ease of renting the car was great including transportation to and from the airport was fast. We went in the summer, it was very very busy. I would suggest going a different time of year. Lots of children was unexpected, especially running around at midnight on the strip. Expect to pay more for everything and hotels don 't provide coffee in the morning and room service charges an extra fee. Unless you use valet parking, expect to park before you check in, you can't park in the entrance anymore and check in sometimes takes a long time. Do go to the stratosphere bar at sunset, they offer 2 for 1 drinks and half price appetizers, try the cheese plate, from 5-7, views are amazing. We ate dinner there too and it was excellent, although it is expensive, but worth it. Don't eat at Spago, got a vegetable frittata for lunch, it was $15, it probably cost 50cents to make and tasted like it. Their pizza looked good and husband enjoyed his hash. Overall, although very hot, it was nice to see the different hotels on the strip and downtown was very cool, also. They have live music on Friday and Saturday. Make sure you see container park, too, there downtown, they have live music on the weekend, too. Having not been in Vegas for 20 years it was still a great experience and worth going.

I had a great trip overall. I experienced Las Vegas on a local's point of view rather than partying on the strip. Hoover dam and red rock canyon were breathtaking but go in the fall or winter season. It's too hot to hike in the summer
