Make sure that you understand that ACE rental is NOT located in the NO airport rental building. You need to call them from the rental building. Also the voucher had the incorrect phone number to call and I had the Budget counter rep look it up for me online to get the correct number. I was almost renting a Budget car because I could not get them on the phone. I had already paid ACE in full and did not have the additional money on my card to repay. I really appreciated the Budget counter man's help !

Get to the airport a little early, to take a look around this magnificent newly built modern structure. No need to miss out on Authentic New Orleans Beignets, as the airport has a Cafe Du Monde along with many other good food and drink choices! If arriving make that your first stop. If departing pack some to go!

Airport brand spanking new, sparkles. Some drawbacks, restrooms are sparse and tight, unbefitting a brand new airport. Food court a welcome sight with many new food additions. However, what is with all the wine bars and very few options for draft beer. Doesn't make sense especially for New Orleans. Are they trying to become the California of the Bayou??

If traveling to areas with possible toll roads, check on purchase of toll pass. We headed to Florida where they use the SunPass. Some parts of toll roads do not allow you to pay. Picture is taken of license plate and mailed. Unfortunately, if mailed to rental company, there will be administrative fees. No one seemed to know what or how much those fees would be, so I purchased a pass retroactively after. returning the car. Cost was $12.50 for probable $4 or $5 toll; however, who knows how much "administrative fees" might be. Perhaps I saved money, or maybe I didn't. Would have been nice to have known about all of this when getting the car. Then again, most folks usually just want to get car and get going. Parking in New Orleans itself is not cheap, but there are downtown lots (saw one for $16/day which seemed pretty reasonable) and street parking does pop up around the major hotels in the late afternoon and evening. Must be out by 8AM or be feeding the meter/parking kiosk. Cars are not for everyone, I know, but my wife and I saw most of the city and toured about in only two days. French Quarter, Garden District, Audubon Park, Tulane, meandered along the Mississippi for ten or twelve blocks, WWII Museum, and stroll around a bit of Lake Ponchartrain. More to see, sure, but got a good feel for the city (both good and bad) before heading out for Gulf Coast and eventually Florida Keys. Lot to do and see all over Southern Coast and Florida, especially in the winter.

This was my first time visiting the new MSY airport. And I must say the buildings are definitely modern and update. It's nice to have a new airport. The rental car lots are easy to navigate, but I had a bit of difficulty locating the rental car front desks on the 1st floor. The available signage mentions the location of the rental car lots, but it does not specifically say that all front desks are located on the 1st floor. No harm, no fowl. I eventually figured it out.

the new airport requires a ride on a bus for a half hour to the rental car counters. On the positive side, there are a lot of nice restaurants in the airport now.

Have patience and enjoy the moments. Traffic may have been thick but I was spending time with my family and that made the trip worth it. The customer service was spot on especially the shuttle driver. Thank you for the southern hospitality!

Pack light. It just makes everything much easier. When renting a car plan to purchase the more expensive insurance the rental companies offer. It just helps not to have to think about what could happen. Also when flying or driving dress in something fun and comfy. When clothes are fun traveling feels more like an adventure than a long trip.

New Orleans has so many beautiful sights to offer. Make sure to not only see the French Quarter but to also enjoy what the Lower Garden District has to offer. From plantation tours to amazing cuisine you can spend days in this city. A couple of my favorites food and drink spots would be Tableu, Commanders Palace, LaFites Blacksmith Shop, Hotel Pontchartrain, and the list can go on. Be a local and grab a beer, hop on a street car, and truly see what this city has to offer.

If you are going to rent a car call and talk to someone about it. Be sure to ask about all of the fees and costs associated with the rental, then you can use the full price to compare choices. This same advice goes for hotels and other rentals, the online cost listed is often not the full price, and once you get there its too late make any significant changes. Make several plans for things to do while in the city. This should include plans for if it rains, or you are otherwise unable to do the first thing scheduled. Make sure you also pack for each of these contingencies. Then remember you can't do everything, so just enjoy what you have time to do and do the rest next time!

If you are renting a car at the New Orleans Airport, be ready for quite a long walk to get to the counters. There are a couple of golf carts, but service seems sporadic.

It is very tricky to get into the rental place from New Orleans. If you need to fill up gas make sure you select the gas station as the destination before heading into the airport. the access road from the interstate to the airport doesn't have any gas station.

There are a lot of new eateries in the new airport, which is great when you arrive early for your departure. Take some time to eat before your flight. Leah's Kitchen (based on the recipes of world renown chef Leah Chase) and MoPho are my favorites for classic creole food and a creole spin on Vietnamese cuisine. Cafe du Monde for delicious beignets is a must! Be sure to allow enough time when you return your rental car because the shuttle takes about 20 minutes from the rental return to the airport. Laissez Bon Temp Rouler cher!

For me? The very first thing I think of is the food. The French Quarter, and Bourbon Street in Particular, is the center of New Orleans action. If you like oysters, I recommend 424 Seafood Market, Remoulade Restaurant, or the New Orleans Creole Cookery. Four star eating can be had at Muriel's Jackson Square. Beignets are a must, so visit either Cafe Beignet or Cafe DuMonde (or both!). The birthplace of Jazz also has great performers in town. Wander Frenchman Street at night and follow your ears. Accomodations in the French Quarter are a must in order to have an enjoyable stay. There are so many places to choose from. We stayed at the Hotel Villa Convento, and though it could use a bit of lipstick, the room was comfortable, inexpensive and in the French Quarter. They also offered free parking for our rental car.....a HUGE plus in an area with little parking, let alone free. Once planted, the way to get around is via street car and public bus. For $3 a day, you will have unlimited rides for 24 hours with a "Jazzy Pass". It got us to the French Market, where those who like to shop must go for bargains a plenty! You can take it to visit a number of the historic cemeteries. We used it to visit the National World War Two Museum. It is a fabulous look back at the history of the conflict. You are assigned a WWII combatant to start, and you can follow them through all their time in the war. A fascinating place to visit. Plan on a very long day! So, overall, a fabulous place to visit

Love New Orleans, but I have spent a lot of time there and know wht like and where to go. Others I spoke to were disappointed so my suggestion to those who have never been there is to do your homework so you also know where to go and what to do. The neighborhoods there change from block to block so if you see a fabulous hotel on Canal St. thinking all of Canal is that way, it is not, do your research. There is so much fabulous culture there but a lot of it is not main stream, keep your mind open and explore. The food names are very unfamiliar but AMAZING, I love the food there and make it a priority of mine when I visit to have everything I love and to try new things too. Don't be shy, take a trip down the bayou, eat at the little family owned places, see the shrimp boats, maybe go in time for the Blessing of the Fleet, or at Christmas for the Papa Noel fires. I hope you find something about New Orleans and the surrounding towns that you love.
