1. Visit Alcatraz island - I highly recommend checking availability and buying your tickets online early through Alcatraz Cruises. The best tours are Early-bird - depart at 8:45 am or night tour - allow visitors to stay on the island till 9:25 pm 2. Walk and eat in Sausalito 3. Ride San Francisco's historic cable cars 4. Try riding a bicycle or car down Lombard Street

I would call the actual car rental company a day before to validate your vehicle and the deposit amount required to eliminate surprises. In addition, I would check-in on-line for your flight to pay the cheaper baggage fee. Don't forget your car charger for your cell phone!!
