Airport is uncrowded and easy to navigate through. My biggest hassle was with the wifi. It was very very slow, and I needed it to get my boarding pass. It took well over an hour to download a boarding pass. It would also have been nice if there were visible postings about the wifi network so travelers can be sure they are getting the "official" wifi network. I lost my cell phone case but everybody was very friendly when I tried to see if it had been turned in to lost and found.

Only Tui travel there from uk I think. But its flying on the 787 Dreamliner so no problem. Airfares competitive.. Budjet car hire opposite exit from terminal 2 minute walk so easy. I-4 West straight to Kissimmee/ Disney/ Universal etc.

Make sure you have your full rental agreement printed for going to the hire desk. Make sure you are happy with the vehicle they supply and it meets your requirements. Ensure there is no attempt to sign for any additional charges at the desk that are not required. If you need a child safety seat it is cheaper to go to the locs Walmart and buy one rather than renting for the holiday. Be patient with the staff on the desk as they are not always the most helpful or energetic. Ensure you are given clear instructions where to find the car you don’t want to have to look for he car. Don’t pay for the toll pre pay you probably won’t be using the till roads that often.

We highly recommend the many golf courses on the Space coast - A1A Beach Rentals - kayaking on the Banana River and watching the Cruise ships sail out of Jetty Pier. The Cocoa Beach Pier is a very nice place to visit eat and catch some rays. Not to be missed is Flounder ave in Cape Canaveral many waterfront restaurants that are all wonderful in their own way. The airport is quick and easy. Simple to get your bags from carousel. Quick to get through security. Rental cars are right in the terminal with no shuttles. Only drawback was that it is about an hour from Orlando attraction area. It took us quite awhile to get to Disney and Universal from there.

Sanford airport is not very large. But, do make sure you get there 2 hours before your departure so you have ample time to return your car. We departed late afternoon and were rushed because we were delayed in Orlando. If you don't want to bother paying tolls, consider Thrifty's prepay toll option because there are many in Florida. Also, don't forget to leave the keys in the car when you return the vehicle. They will appreciate it. Thank you for a very pleasant and hassle free experience!

We've visited Florida a few times and our best suggestion would be to never rent a car without some form of Toll service. Having to stop for tolls can be frustrating and time consuming. It is worth the cost to acquire the service. Florida is a beautiful state. You really can't go wrong traveling most anywhere your curiosity or desires may take you, but be conscious of commuter traffic times as the highways can get congested. You may want to choose an alternate route or time.

We don't generally stay in Sanford as we fly in on a cheaper airline and drive to the Disney area. There are two general routes to take from the Sanford airport to the Disney area; the I4 - which is 8 miles from the Sanford airport and is undergoing some major construction and can be REALLY congested if you're traveling on it around rush hour; and a toll-road, the 417 (south) which you merge onto about a mile or so from the airport. Total tolls amount to about $5 - $6 to the Disney area, but the traffic keeps moving and you'll be there in about 30 minutes. Overall it's a bit less stressful.

Because Sanford is less busy and congested than Orlando, we prefer to fly in and out of the Sanford airport. There are a lot of nice hotels in the area and several great restaurants to choose from, especially in the Lake Mary area.

I was only traveling through Sanford going to Vero Beach, Florida, but I love that this airport is smaller than the other international airport in Orlando. I was able to get a direct flight and was glad that I didn't have to stop in Atlanta. This airport is still close to Disney World and all of the other parks in Orlando and without having to deal with the larger crowds in the other airport. When I drove away in my rental car, I experienced a small-town atmosphere because the traffic in my direction wasn't heavy at all. My return flight experience was also pleasant because going through security in the smaller airport was not as lengthy.

We went to Disney World and Sea World in Orlando. Except for Shamu's show, Sea World was a disappointment, with poor service and attitudes. Disney did not disappoint - very helpful and accommodating, looked for ways to help us out. Spent an evening at Sleuth's Mystery Dinner Theater and had an absolute ball. The kids even enjoyed it! Went to Ripley's Believe It or Not with the two youngest, and they loved it. Wish we would have had two weeks instead of one - there is so very much to do in the Orlando area.

Pre program gps and carry change with you for tolls. Not all tolls are manned and you need exact change. Alamo cars offered a Sun Pass which I was not aware of. So all was ok.

Sanford is off the beaten path. You should expect higher car rental costs on all agencies. There are some very good deals in nice motels and reasonable gas prices not too far from the airport. Definitely less than 10 miles. Sanford is closer to the Atlantic coast. This also made it easier to get on SR Tampa 4 east. It easily kept us toll free. A1A is very scenic but slower. Route 95 is a good, fast pace alternative. Although we didn't stay in Sanford, it did seem like a nice suburb.

I was here on business. However, the location is ideal. It is just about 35 minutes north of Orlando (Disney, Universal) and the same for the Premium outlets. There are also several beaches close by.
