I'm thrilled that Tucson finally has a TSA Pre-check line (although it's rarely needed since it's such a small airport). I needed it on this trip since I got to the airport late due to an accident on I-10. Please note that there is a section of I-10 where you don't get cell phone service. It's in a canyon (there are signs for the canyon, but it's easy to remember when the road goes down lower and you have rocks standing up around you, then you're in the canyon). It only lasts for a few miles, maybe, so it's not too bad. But if you're on a phone call or something, it's good to warn people about it. Taking Valencia is the tried and true way to get to I-10. I tried a back way this time and I'm not sure it was much faster. Going that way, I had no traffic lights or traffic, so that was good.

Reserve your car as early as possible for the best deals. Purchase your airline tickets at least a month and a half before departure. Make sure you inspect your vehicle (360•) for any dings in the car before you take it. Check the fuel gage to make sure the tank is filled. Pack light because the trunk may not be big enough. Give yourself plenty of time to gas the car on the return date.

I love the fact that most of the car rental agencies are right at the airport. No need to get a shuttle or tram to go to a different location. It makes dropping off the car and making your flight on time so much easier.

1. Book ahead; cars won't be available otherwise. 2. Review personal insurance before renting; it can save time and money. 3. Be prepared to wait patiently; the rental agents are great, but busy when flights come in. 4. Put the cell phone away and give the agent -- and the people behind you in line -- the courtesy of full attention to get through the paperwork as efficiently as possible. 5. Rent a cart for baggage if necessary; it's not the agent's job to schlep your baggage to your car for you. 6. Enjoy the travel!

TUS is an efficient, easily navigable airport. All services are simple to find due to thoughtfully placed signage, and can be found along a direct walkable path including car rental pick-up/drop -off locations to airline check-in desks. Restaurants, on both sides of the TSA gates are quick service and airport personnel are warm, helpful, and efficient. This airport is well managed on every observable level and has he well manicured style of a big city airport with the warmth and courtesy of a small city airport.

Airport was OK but some parts could use renovation. No jetway to the plane so had to walk out on the tarmac. Bags were delivered to an older area that was crowded. Car rental is outside of the main terminal but only a short walk.

It's quite a hike to pick up the rental cars at the Tucson airport, but once in the rental area, picking up your car is easy. The reservation desk agents were friendly and helpful. The car return was a snap, but if you are traveling with others and have lots of luggage, drop them off in the flight departure area before you return the car.

This suggestion is worth considering for anyone facing adverse weather conditions: if you know a big storm is predicted, try to be proactive, especially if you are on a tight schedule. Try to get out of (or into) the airport a day early. Tucson, for example, does not have many resources for dealing with snow, as I now well know, having gotten caught in February's freak snowstorm and enduring a day's travel delay.

Try to describe well what car you need. I wanted a middle size car with scatable back seats. When they gave me car without that option, company replace car with truck what was working perfectly for me. When return the car, on the road to the airport there are several fuel stations, but don't way the last option, because i reached airport and have to return to load fuel. In all cases advice to go to the top of A mountain on sunset time - the view is magnificent. If you need a good restaurant, can reccomend "El charo" in downtown - citchen is excellent.

1 Make reservations well in advance. 2 Make sure car rentals are located at the airport, not some other location. 3 Double check reservation confirmation right after making as well as a few weeks before- sometimes times change. 4 Double check luggage restrictions- measurements will be adhered to. 5 Be sure luggage is tagged and that the receipt is in a safe place. 6 Be award that if you don’t pre-reserve a seat, you may not be able to accommodate such things as long legs are mild disabilities. 7 Wear loose fitting shoes- easy to get in and off. 8 If you have any circulation problems or lower back issues, wear support socks at least to the knees. 9. Flex and roll your feet, do knee lifts, neck rolls and stretches during the flight if you can’t get up st least once to body stretch. 10 Take a decongestant before flight if comfortable - minimizes ear pressure. 11 Bring non- scented sanitizer wipes for using on seat, arm rests, anything that someone may have touched. Minimizes germ spreading.

If you have a car rental return don't come in the back way to the airport. Nice remodel of the airport. TSA is quick and easy. Many new eating places both in the entry lobby and beyond TSA. The new flooring is nice, but the color scheme is a bit off. Relatively easy pickup and drop-off of passengers if you are getting a lift to the airport. Overall, TIA is a friendly, fun travel experience.

Bring the least amount. If disabled expect to help yourself to some areas. Have extra set of clothes in carry on. Carry your needed meds with you. If possible your carry should be able to put under seat in front. Bring snacks.

Tucson Airport is a breeze to get in & out of - the least stressful major airport in the US that I know of. If you are not local, make sure to fill up on water upon arrival, as Tucson is hot & dry, and also moderately high elevation - the combination can cause a headache if you are not fully hydrated.

The renovations are just about finished. There are new restaurants. Security line was short. The TSA employees were efficient and friendly. I love the fact that rental car return is on site. All I had to do was drop off my car and walk to the gate. No need to wait for a shuttle or a bus to move from terminal to rental cars.

If at all possible try not to check any bags. Check in and getting off the plane is so much easier unless you have multiple layovers. If you check your baggage make sure to take a fresh pair of undies, medications and electronics with your carry on. Roll your clothes instead of folding them to save space in your bags. Wear slip on shoes for when going through airport security. I loosen up my shoelaces instead of wearing flip flops because I prefer to keep socks on. Bring hand sanitizer or wipes, the airplane tray tables hide lots of germs. Even if traveling from a hot place to another the planes and airport can get cold, bring a light jacket! As for the Tucson airport there is not many if any restaurants so snacks would be a good option. Anyone traveling to Tucson...drink plenty of water, it gets hot here year round!

Felt great to feel heat from the sun while on holiday from a particularly cold Northwest winter. Tucson airport and car rental are all small town scale. Driving to particular destinations always happened so much quicker than I was imagining. The town is laid out in a grid and it very easy to drive around. The Sonoran desert is the only place where Saguaro Cactus grown and they are magnificent. A drive thru the National Park to the west was gorgeous. This drive then took us to the Desert Museum, with a cactus garden containing more species than I have ever seen, and a hummingbird aviary, a first! Same road then leads to Old Tucson, a movie set of the Old West. Breakfast, or any meal, at Hotel Congress in downtown. I have not come across a menu of late where I wanted to try EVERYTHING like I did on the breakfast menu at Hotel Congress. Just across the street from there was El Diablo burgers. SO GOOD! Also enjoyed the local Sonoran Hot Dog. A drive up Mt Lemmon at 8,000 feet gave us a great perspective on the entire Tucson area, snow, and lunch at the Sawmill Restaurant. The Botanical Gardens have a current exhibit of Frida Kahlo's love of nature. The Mini Time Machine Museum was so FUN. There is a whole community in Tucson of folks working in miniatures, and a museum to exhibit their work, as well as historical works as well. We are already planning to return.
