Melbourne airport is alright. Signage is clear. Most of the passages are not packed. Luggage collection belt is welled organised. Luggage delivery is also quick. Restaurants and shops are quite adequate.

Great airport and easy to get through. Scanners for passport ID. The luggage was quick. Outside in the main area there was still opportunity to buy duty free. I bought a SIM card at one of the many desks and for $30 got 50gb and unlimited text and calls including UK. Coming back was just as easy, once I knew where to go as I accidently ended up in the area for internal flights. The only issue I had was with my flight provider.

I would suggest to make a higher daily rate booking to ensure there are more varieties of vehicles to choose from upon arrival at pick up. Especially at airports where vehicles are always in short supply.

Always check in early and try to get as close to front of plane as possible to get off promptly. Only bring check in luggage if required. It is best to fly premium airlines for better service, to have meals included and to have wifi. Rather than spending on taxis investigate if there is an airport bus available. If traveling long distance in Australia aim to hire a larger vehicle for greater comfort. When flying keep hydrated with lots of water.

Plan the trip well and take a car with GPS. Australia traffic laws are strict and there are soany roads and turnings. Do not touch your phones at all whilst driving even if it is to look at the maps or the time. Observe speed limits as it changes according to conditions even on the highways. Bring a credit card with embossed details. I was not told to and the rental office did not accept a digitally printed card. Enjoy yourself. The car is good. Melbourne is great. Will visit again.

Take note of time if driving in or near city so can try to avoid peak hour traffic if possible. Take lots of photos to remember holiday in future. Regarding the car rental location of the Melbourne Tullamarine airport, I would recommend to choose a pick-up / drop-off time outside of the busy hours. Especially when not used to left hand driving, one could easily feel overwhelmed with the very different traffic conditions. In the state of Victoria, one should definitely visit Melbourne (which is said to be the most livable city in the world) and plan for a hike in the Wilsons Promontory National Park. The general area of Portland has much to offer, as well; the coastal landscape is very impressive and can be explored by hiking along the impressively long and scenic Great South West Walk (G.S.W.W.)

Melbourne, indeed the whole of Victoria is a beautiful place. We visited Echuca on the Murray River and that was a lovely place. Another good place to visit is Ballarat where you can go panning for gold. The rest of the time we spent around Melbourne itself. The Mordialloc and Parkdale beaches are lovely and you can enjoy some really good food at the cafe at Parkdale where all the staff are really great. The museum is well worth a visit, as is Federation Square and the Docklands. There are loads of good places to eat.

Tips when hiring a car..... Get a GPS for travelling the motorways, they can be tricky to navigate around Melbourne. Shop and eat in Melbourne Central and the Emporium. Go to the Italian restaurant area and barter for your dinner and wine!

Yarra valley has greta beautiful sites and vine yards and wine tours, it is also and great place for family places that have cabins with pools and tennis court and alot of family activities.
