About Car Hire in Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport

Nice is a delightful destination on the French Riviera known for its beaches, stunning bars and restaurants, epic scenery, and culture. When you are not lounging at the beach, it is quite easy to get lost while exploring the museums. Every year in February, Nice hosts one of the best carnivals, which has been going on since 1274. Alternatively, you may also explore the architecture and the cobbled streets. The best way to explore Nice and its surroundings is by hiring a car.
Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport (NCE) is the primary gateway to the city of Nice and is located approximately 6km from the city centre. With two terminals, the airport has a record of carrying over 14 million passengers in 2019. The top airlines serving the Nice airport include Air France, Air Canada, British Airways, Emirates, and Gulf Air. The top outbound destinations people visit from Nice are Monaco, Dubai, Bahrain, London, and Montreal.
Once you arrive in Nice and complete the formalities, there are two places within the airport from where you can hire your car. If you are in Terminal 1, head towards gates A1 and A2. If you are in Terminal 2, head to gates A2 and A3. The most popular car hire companies are located at these respective gates. The biggest car hire companies in Nice are Avis, Alamo, Europcar, Hertz, Interrent, and Firefly. These agencies are usually flexible and can provide you with your desired car on the spot. However, if you have a specific car in mind, we highly recommend making an advance booking. France highly favours manual transmission cars. Hence, hiring an automatic car at the airport is subject to availability. So, if you prefer automatic transmission vehicles, we suggest pre-booking to avoid any disappointment. Whether you want a compact sedan or a spacious SUV, you’ll easily find one within your price range.

Downtown Car Hire in Nice

Buses and trams are part of Nice's efficient public transportation system. It is very convenient because it takes you all over the city. However, if you are on a special honeymoon or a business trip, getting stuck due to public transportation can be a huge hassle. Furthermore, it might not take you everywhere you want to go! Nothing beats driving around Nice in a hire car after picking it up in the city centre. In addition, hiring a vehicle in the city centre rather than at the airport may save you money. Because of the limited parking space at the airport, you may have more options when hiring a car in the city. Hire a sedan or SUV based on your needs and budget to make the most of your trip. Hiring a large vehicle will ensure that you have enough space for your belongings throughout the trip.

Top Road Trips from Nice

The weather in Nice is quite balmy, which helps in creating the perfect holiday. Nice has a lot to offer to tourists. However, if you decide to go on a road trip from Nice, here are a few places worth checking out:
East of Nice, along the shore, sits Monaco, a tiny, sovereign nation. It is renowned for hosting the annual Monaco Grand Prix on its meandering, historic streets. It is also the location of Monte Carlo, where for years, many have risked their money (and fortune!) at the iconic Monte Carlo casino. However, if gambling is not your thing, head over to Fontevieille to explore the vintage car museum and the Jardin Exotique for spectacular sea views.
Cagnes-sur-Mer, a charming town on the French Riviera, began as a tiny fishing community. The town is divided into various unique areas, including a lovely yacht harbour and a historic district on top of a hill. The majestic Château Grimaldi, which dates back to the 14th century and houses a collection of modern and contemporary art, dominates the town centre. If you visit in the summer, you can partake in the International Festival of Painting. Alternatively, visit the renowned painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s home to enjoy his work.

Perfect for a city break, you have no need for a car in the city, parking is difficult and expensive when it's so easy to walk around the old city and market area. Plenty of restaurants, great shopping, lots of hotels for all budgets, you can't go wrong.
