Two weeks car hire Staff friendly and helpful Collected from airport - all good Car clean – ran fine I asked to keep the original of the pick up condition report as photo copy not clear Little confused by the e mail from a bank about a direct debit that was confirmed to have originated from Tripz – mail ignored with no ill effects Tripz have the car resisted for use on toll roads in all states – Tripz will bill you at the end of rental for tolls incurred – convenient arrangement I would happily use them again Finding way from the pickup and to the drop off location would not be possible without sat nav -- I used the Free Navigator app on my phone having downloaded the map for Australia – excellent Worth knowing is that fresh ground coffee is $1 a cup at seven eleven and pie face outlets

Transport between the airport and Sydney city/suburbs is excellent. You almost can't go wrong with either train or taxi because it's so close.

Driving into the airport can be quite confusing. Follow the signs to the domestic terminal. Stay in the left lane that leads you around with the taxies. Hertz is the last rental car drop off around the corner. Their office is located in the carpark. Very smooth experience.

Apportion was ok. If staying at a hotel it was tricky finding the bus transportation location as the markings are on the pavement and not very clear. Shop around for best car rental prices.

Having Hertz in the arrival hall is a major plus. Saves having to wait for a shuttle service to then go through the whole allocation process. Holiday Cars were cheaper than the Hertz website and also the AA 'discount' website. On return at SYD, do drive slowly. It's easy to miss the rentals return lane and you end up going into express parking. Keep left after going through the first barriers as it's difficult to see the rentals return lane.

Firstly, be familiar with the rules of driving in Australia. Also, be sure to allow extra time beyond the time listed in sites such as Google maps. It will take longer!! Gasoline should be purchased when available because the distances between stations can be considerable. Be aware of “unusual” road hazards because you may encounter wombats, wallaby’s and evening kangaroos on the rod as potential encounters. Lastly, take time to enjoy the sites and meet the people in the smaller less traveled areas. You will find them to be friendly and helpful.

1. Avoid car rental agreements that don't specifically give a final price. "Taxes and charges" can be very high and it's ambiguous. 2. Always book your room with breakfast included, it's great value and you don't have to spend the early morning trying to figure out where to get a nice breakfast. You can always have a mid morning break in a cafe if you fancy one. 3. Pack less clothes than you think you may need. It's fun doing window shopping and you may pickup something (like a t-shirt) that will remind you of the place.

recommended when landing to tell your friend which arrival lounge you are in A or B or you will be waiting in the wrong one for a long time since both have almost exactly the same shops.

Don’t use the train if two or more people to city. The food hall is great, use it instead of airline food. Shower facility provided, BYO towel and soap. Use the bus to transfer between domestic and international terminals. There can be long wait to get a cab at busy times so consider alternatives like Uber. Rental car companies with depot outside airport are much cheaper.

Avoid the M5 & tolls if you can. The traffic was horrendous on some days. See the new year's eve fireworks from the harbour if you can. Spectacular. It does get hectic in new year's eve so take public transport. Sydney's beaches are beautiful. Look for the less known and less popular ones because you can still get free parking at these but not at the well known ones and they are not so crowded.

We picked up the rental car and heading out to scenic areas outside Sydney. Some of the highlights include the coastline around Jervis Bay, Hyams beach, and we found Port Jackson shark egg cases all along the beach at Huskissons. (Maybe best not to take a dip in the water there. There is also a great disused railway at Helensberg that has glow worms in it that you can explore for free. The Navy "Fleet Air Museum" near Nowra is also a fun place because you can do a simulated flight in a helicopter.

A beautiful waterfront city with many good areas to just wander about, particularly around The Rocks, the opera house and botanic gardens. Take a boat trip from Circular Quay.
