All the advantages of using a small airport, though immigration clearance could be slow if two planes arrive together.

Bergerac is a beautiful market town on the Dordogne river. It has a medieval area, just north of the river with small streets and wonderful squares. There are flowers everywhere with an almost wild and natural look to the landscape plan which is very effective. The Musee du Vin et de la Batellerie in the old town is worth a visit. A very good introduction to the wines of Bergerac and a chance to taste some of them. As you wonder around, you will see some interesting X11 century architecture some of the houses are half-timbered. We also found some interesting shops and bought some wonderful old hand embroidered French linen napkins and pillowcases. There are excellent places to eat, we enjoyed meals at Le Vin Quertre, La Table Marche and L'Imparfait. Not cheap but excellent food and wine and worth every euro. There was a fantastic band playing in the bar next door to the L'Imparfair, which has the same owner, so we stayed up much later than planned.People were very helpful and friendly we went to the Saturday morning market around the church and bought so many lovely presents and goodies to take home, that we had to check in our suitcase for the return journey

Bergerac is a delight and it is a great place to use as a hub and to radiate your exploration from. All the villages and towns are beautiful and unique each with their own quirky charm. The roads are uncrowded and I think in our entire stay counted only 3 potholes, very much unlike the UK. Also the countryside and road verges are clean and litter free, again, unlike the UK.
