All in all it is an easy airport to navigate but is pretty big. I would recommend arriving by the standard advised time prior to departure for international flights as the check in line could be long. Security goes fairly quickly. If you have lounge access, I find Blue to be better than ANA but both are comfortable. Time from lounge to gate can vary so be conscious of that. If going with a rental, be weary of companies such as Goldcar that advertise a cheap price in order to get you in the door and then hit you with essentially required add-ons.

We would highly recommend other travelers to chose the services of Europcar. Not only because we were 100 %satisfied with the rented car but because of the professional customer service provided by the staff of Europcar at the airport in Lisboa. When we arrived to the Europcar office at the airport in Lisboa we received our ticket to get in line from an elderly gentleman who was very friendly with all customers while waiting in line to pick up their cars. Even though the line was long it went so fast to our surprise. The representative of Europcar who took care of us was extremely professional, he was able to answer all our questions and concerns (which we had as it was our very first time in Portugal). The administrative procedure didn't take more than 5-6 minutes including checking our personal credentials and recording all necessary data required for pick up the car we had reserved. Just a few minutes later we found ourselves sitting in the car we always wanted to drive in Portugal. During our trip we fully enjoyed our rented car which made our trip so memorable. Thank you Europcar!

Friendly, human sized airport, with all amenities you would need, restaurants, shops etc. Very close to city center so one does not loose time to get from the airport to Lisbon. This is a huge plus so one can spnd more time in this fabulous city :) My experience is that all staff, whether airline staff or security treats travellers as guests, not cattle as in many other airports.... This must be just Portuguese character and hospitality, paired with good schooling. They are the visit cards of any traveller arriving or leaving ! They are there to help you and feel comfortable, and this feeling is great :) Thank you !

To drive in Portugal, especially in Lisbon, it helps to have a small car as most streets are narrow and parking is at a premium. A GPS is also helpful: although the A series highways are amazing and easy to follow, driving in bigger cities and smaller towns can be challenging. It is also necessary to be aware of the toll routes on the highways, and do your research to decided whether or not you need a Via Verde activation, or whether you can pay the tolls yourself. I highly recommend researching the rules of the road and being careful when driving in Lisbon, as there are many one way streets, traffic lights that are not easily visible from your vehicle, and common knowledge rules that do not always have signage (i.e. do not turn right on a red light).

I think having a travelling device holder is essential for car journeys when using sat nav on the phone. Also use the toll roads they are comfortable and traffic free mostly. Always ask for soup! It’s excellent and super cheap :), pack car snacks. Do buy oranges by the side of the road they are fresh and tasty ;)

Lisbon is a wonderful city with plenty of amazing attractions. However, we rented a car for a reason. We highly recommend to drive to Sintra, and visit the castle and it’s wonderful gardens. From there you must visit the Windmill Restsurant on your way to Guincho. The beaches in Guincho are wild and beautiful no matter what season. From there drive to Cascais where a charming town with beautiful restaurants and boutiques offer something for any taste. You might want to visit the beautiful art museum . You could drive along the beach all the way back to Lisbon. The views are stunning. A suggestion for someone who does not travel on a tight budget or wants to celebrate a special occasion: In the Penha Longa Resort in the middle of the forest between Sintra and Cascais there is Portugal‘s most amazing restaurant, The Lab. It is a Michelin Resraurant , and our experience there was beyond any expectation of a fine dining place. Last but not at all least; we loved our car, the service was easy , friendly and efficient at the best price we have ever paid at Lisbon airport. We have used many different companies in the past, but will definitely go back to Rhodium next time. Carmela Casella

In general Lisbon airport is really well organised. If you have to change floors with a luggage trolley look for the lift, then you can take the trolley with you. The security check is well dimensiond so you will pass it with an acceptable delay. There is a nice well extended shopping area for everybody’s needs. There is also a wide choice of food and drinks with large sitting area. For people who prefer it quieter, there are several smaller sitting areas/corners in the hallways, just go look for them. Lisbon Airport can sure be recommended!

Make sure that before booking this rental car that your flight falls between their business hours 8am-8pm, or else you’ll incur a fee for dropping off after 8pm (and you have to inform them prior). Not sure for early pick up but I guess It’s the same if informed or just not open. Use an external car plug instead of directly connecting to usb if you’re using your phone as gps. The roads in Portugal are very nice to drive in and a relatively easy (and speedy) drive.

Buy a local data sim card package and use your mobile phone for maps. Take time to drive off the main highways and follow the secondary roads. Stop often to visit smaller, off the beaten path villages. Eat at restaurants that are frequented by the locals, to experience the true taste of the country. Research your destination thoroughly before you depart and have an idea of some of the things you would like to do. However, don't be too rigid in your plans - allow for unexpected discoveries and adventures - be flexible. Take as many photos as you can - photos are a return journey to memories otherwise lost.

Great city to visit, good food, wine, friendly people, Latin spirit, reasonable prices. Safe city but beware of cheating taxi drivers at the airport. Unfortunately, the govt is introducing more tourist fees and taxes. Go to see Sintra, Coimbra, Fátima, Évora and Algarve.

We did not visit Lisbon - we stayed at Abufeira and made trips around Algarve. Serious improvement needed with weather - first week we had lot of clouds and even rain - please do something about it next time.

See the old town and wander the many little corners with cafes and restaurants. What a view from the castle. So much shopping and nice food to enjoy.
