About Car Rental at Rhodes Airport

Rhodes is the largest Greek island in the Dodecanese Archipelago. Within the islands that make up Greece, it is one of the most mountainous, thanks to its extensive mountain chain that almost entirely crosses it. Rhodes International Airport is located 14km southwest of the city of Rhodes and is the fourth busiest airport in all of Greece and is the only international airport in Rhodes, which is why it is visited by hundreds of thousands of people every year.

Renting a car is one of the best things you can do if you are planning a trip to Rhodes. With it, you will be able to reach different parts of the island, which you would otherwise not see if you were relying on public transport – not to mention the fact that you will be far more comfortable too.

Inside the airport you will find a wide variety of services to rent a car, allowing you to be able to choose between the most recognized brands in the world. Among the worldwide car rental companies found at Rhodes Airport are Budget, Dollar Diamond, AVIS, and Alamo. These companies work mostly with Ford and Fiat, as they have an agreement signed between the brands and the airport.

Car Rental at Rhodes

If you want to rent a car to travel around Rhodes, but do not have a big budget, you can choose to rent it when you get into the city, outside of the airport. By doing this, you will find the cheapest prices. Rhodes is full of businesses that rent cars - in fact, you will find more than 20 car rental services in the area. Sixt is among some of the most famous car rental companies in the world, and is extremely popular in Rhodes. However, you can also opt for a local option like RODOS CARS, which offer cars of different sizes, and requirements. Some rental suppliers even offer luxury cars, for those who want to travel around Rhodes in style.

Driving in Rhodes

Each country has its own way of driving, so when you go to a new place it is important you read up on the local rules of the road. The island of Rhodes can be particularly difficult to understand, especially for those inexperienced drivers. The great danger on the island is motorcycles; as it is full of them, and they can be hard to miss when driving around in a new place.

One great thing to note is that gas stations are in abundance throughout the island, so no matter where you are, you will always have one at least 5km away – which may seem unnecessary, but the uphill and downhill roads consume more fuel than any other road type.

Most of the road signs are in both Greek and English, which is extremely helpful for those who do not speak Greek. Unfortunately, however, there are not many signs that make you aware of the speed limits, so it is essential to have some type of GPS with you, to let you know and help you to avoid a ticket.

Car Rental Agencies in Rhodes

The most chosen car rental business for tourists in Rhodes is Kalithea Star. With more than 100 positive comments and a rating of almost 5 stars, it is the most chosen company in the city. It offers a wide variety of cars, which are all in impeccable condition, and they have traveler's insurance that will protect you throughout the island, no matter where you are.

Another popular one is Rhodes Rider Rent a Car, which has the best cars for those who are traveling with family or friends. If you are traveling with a large group, then checking out Rhodes Rider Rent a Car is a must, as they have a wide variety of large cars and even small vans to choose from.

Top Road Trips from Rhodes

The medieval city of Rhodes is the best attraction on the island. This site was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the largest and best-preserved medieval city in all of Europe. If you want to travel back in time to the Middle Ages, then this is a must.

Along with this, a trip to the many beaches on Rhodes is a must, for those of you seeking crystal clear water and perfectly white, sandy beaches.

Best travel tips include. Know what you want when you make the booking. Plan at least somethings you want to do in advance of arriving. Buy a map of where you're going. Ensure you have the necessary documentation, passport, visas, driving licence and booking details. Rent a car in advance, not on the spur of the moment. Ensure you have health insurance.

Id like to recommend to everyone to try a gyro and also visit the monasteries/ancient sites that are on top of the mountains (like the Tsampika monastery and the acropolis of Lindos). The view is amazing from up there.
