Don't be afraid to drive on the left! It was a first for us but it went smoothly, other drivers on the road were kind and patient. On a whole, we found Okinawa to be very friendly. It was very easy to find our way around. Having a GPS was awesome too. I would recommend a drive to Okuma Beach.

Favorite thing I did on the island is bike tataki falls in the north part of the island. The trail literally takes you up a shallow stream to an amazing waterfall with a swimming hole. If you’re in the area, Churami aquarium is pretty neat. Save some time afterwards to stroll in the tree lined alley in Bise. Second floor at the market in Naha has awesome food and a great vibe for lunch. You can buy a fish downstairs and have a restaurant upstairs cook it for you. Go to blue seal ice cream for purple and salt chinsuko flavors special to Okinawa.

1. Must try okinawa izakaya food - sit on tatami floor the traditional way. 2. Snorkel - we went with marine club umi - excellent with our 2 kids aged 9 and 11 - with English speaking guide - fantastic experience with value 3. Visit Churaumi Aquarium - best one we have ever visited. Aim to spend a full day as beach in walking distamve gives a chance to go for a swim or chill under the sun

If you have an international connection the check in lines are long - seriously long (45+ minutes). Add a lot of time to your airport check in. Security checks everything electronic including USB cables.
