Clean and very well staffed. DTW is a world class airport. Plenty of fun Detroit-themed souvenir shops. So its great for last minutes gifts to take with you. National Coney in Terminal 5 serves Detroit style Coneys as well as iconic Sanders hot fudge creampuffs. Even the TSA agents there are friendly and helpful. I fly through DTW at least 4 times a year and always look forward to a taste of Detroit!

Delta Terminal is HUGE! NEVER be late! There are two security lines. One is on the check-in floor and the other one is downstairs. Go to the one downstairs as the line is shorter. Probably people don't remember or don't know about the one downstairs. Once you make it through security, you have to figure out whether you have to take the train to the other end of the terminal. So NEVER be late. Give yourself enough time to get to the gate and shop around as there are a lot of shops in this airport. I wish I knew so i had time to shop :)

If you're at the airport for a layover, get a Coney! You can't find that chili anywhere except Michigan.

If flying in and meeting people coming in on other airlines, have everyone take the rental car shuttle and meet at Budget.

Always bring your if when ever you travel. When looking at renting check out close rentals that may not be right at the airport for better rate. Always remember that even though you have rental insurance to bring your own insurance card. Print off your reservation. Comparing will always save you money.

Keep in mind that this airport has two different terminals. They are not as quick and easy to go between as at some airports. Also, if you rent a car DO NOT use the gas station at the corner of Middlebelt and Wick Rd. They charge 50 to 70 cents more per gallon than other stations in the area. Instead, go north on Middlebelt Road about 1 mile (pass under I-94). There are gas stations at the corner of Middlebelt and Ecorse Road that sell gas at a fair price. A few extra minutes will save you lots of money.

Have quick access to your passport/driver's license, credit card and some cash for tipping. I love to travel with a flexible schedule so that I can sidetrack to see things of interest that I come upon. That being said it is smart to have your room reservations made at least one night ahead. Sometimes they are hard to find, if you don't. Weekend nights are the hardest time to find a last minute vacancy. Use a website with reviews of hotels and restaurants to find good places. If possible have a passenger use Google Maps to give you information as you head down the road. Happy travels.

Always make sure to fill gas at least a few exits before you have to return the rental car and get a receipt just incase they need proof :)

Have travel documents, ID, and a credit card accessible. Keep them separate from everything else so that you have them ready when needed and are not holding up a line to find them at check in. Once on the plane, put these items in a place of easy access in case you would like to purchase food, drinks, or a movie. Also travel without wearing jewelry, belt buckles, or shoes/boots with buckles. Makes going through security easier and quicker.

The weather was great for Feb and had plenty to do. ANN ARBOR was nice and the campus at Mich was very nice. Had very nice Museums even though we could not get to them all. There are plenty of good food around for anyone's taste. The hotels are very nice and close to all attractions. The local hockey community was great and the tournament was great. Would recommend this area for any sports tournament or just for leisure.

Pretty good airport. Decent facilities. Security lines can get long at prime times. Easier to get through customs here then at high profile airports
