Car hire Edinburgh

Why would you hire a car at Edinburgh Airport? Well, there are numerous reasons for car rental in Edinburgh, or Scotland in general. We’ve listed some reasons for you to rent a car on your next trip to Edinburgh:

Drive carefully in Scotland!

All countries apply different traffic rules than others. The best known difference between the UK and most other countries is of course driving on the left side of the road. There are a few other things you need to take in mind when driving your rental car through Scotland. First of all you have to mask your lights as they are pointed right. Driving on the left side of the road, your lights will dazzle oncoming traffic. Furthermore, you really shouldn’t drink and drive, as you can be put into jail if you only try to. Last of all you’re prohibited to horn between 11.30 PM and 7 AM.

When hiring a car especially abroad. Make sure you take a photo of the fuel status and milage on pick up. Make sure you do this on returning the car. This way there can be no disagreement on fuel and milage. Also photo the car asap in daylight on pick up. This is particularly important with less reputable car hire companies! Pdf main hire docs too on your phone.

Would be great if they had bag scanning facilities like Geneva where it is not necessary to remove electronic items from hand-luggage. Its crazy that there is no canopy between the airport and tram station to keep passengers dry.

Edinburgh airport is really easy to access, Good road and Local transport make it easy to get in and out. If Returning hire car give an extra 15 mins to hand car in and walk to terminal. Drop bags and check in ASAP as Security can be busy. Good range of shops and duty free available inside. Take advantage of the airline lounges its a much more relaxing way to begin your flight or holiday.

Dont worry too much about planning everything. Get a rough idea of your route and the plan as you go. Its always great to have some flexibility for when you come across some unexpected sights! If you're heading to the Scotland Highlands like we did - the Isle of Skye is unmissable. A simply incredible place with amazing scenery. Get a good playlist - long road trips need some good songs to keep everyone in the car happy. And to mix it up, throw in the odd game. We did a fair few pub quizzes on some of our longer driving legs!

Edinburgh Airport is a nice airport. Modern and clear. Car rental counters are close by. The center can be easily reached by tram or bus. I recommend. Suitable for excursions in Scotland.

The airport is not too far from the city by bus. There are a couple of restaurants to wait. There are car rental agencies as well (DON'T GO TO GREEN MOTION OR EASIRENT, LOOK THEM UP). It's not a big airport, so no need to arrive there too early. People are nice, as anywhere in Scotland. I didn't use the parking, but I heard it's not too expensive.

Research your car hire company beforehand. Don’t be fooled by rates that are too good to be true and go with a reputable company even if it means spending some extra money. It’s well worth it.

1. Bring a credit card, not to spend but for deposits and mishaps 2. Be flexible, things change fast when you travel 3. Be patient, a tight itinerary can cause stress, be patient and you'll get more out of life 4. Understand that staff members are there to help not be shouted at because you didn't read the small print 5. Embrace local culture 6. Ask locals for tips/recommendations, they know better than trip advisor

It is not a large airport, so is not difficult to get around in. They have the usual food, restrooms, money changers and such. The place was clean and easy to negotiate. Their arrival/departure boards are not frequent, so if you see one, check it since it may be a bit before you see another! There is also a small hike to get to the car rental area, but it's manageable. Busses arrive right in front, and if you're using the 100 bus to go into town, it is very easy, and takes you straight to Princes Street and Waverley Station. Great if you use the bus to go in and out of the airport since it is quite a distance west of town.

Great airport cactually in Edinburgh and not miles away. Make sure you do your research on the vehicle hire provider, if the deal is too good to be true then it probably isnt what it seems. For a piece of mind i would stick to the well known companies, although a tad more expensive, you know exactly what your getting. Take the tram and busses where possible. Plan ypur trip and leave plenty of time for unexpected occurrences. Arrive early and in good time for your flights and check in, dont be that person running a marathon in the airport. Be safe, enjoy yourself and your trip.

Edinburgh airport was a very easy and friendly place. The facilities were very clean and the staff were always willing to assist customers. One of the easiest airports I have flown in and out of. Great restaurants with a very reasonable cost for food and beer. The buses, train, and onsite car rental agencies are very close to the exit and well marked. If you are going into Edinburgh I recommend the train or bus, depending on location.

Scotland is an amazing country, but even more so are its people. Everyone was polite, helpful and upbeat. We often complain about our weather, but the Scots just deal with it. The Scottish campers in the beautiful highlands didn't complain about the rain, they just enjoyed their free time - maybe with a wee bit of Whiskey and smokes. If you expect the rain, you can celebrate the sun when it comes out. It's all a matter of perspective. The variety of fresh food in the markets was impressive. The salmon out of this world!!

Edinburgh airport is under some renovation right now, so queues are a little longer than usual. Passport control is a bit of a nightmare. Staff at the airport are friendly. Car pick up and return are about 5 minutes walk from the collections desks. Fluid experience. There is a petrol station just before the airport if you are coming from Edinburgh centre and need to return the car full.

The Fish & Chips shop in Anstruther is a must see. Charles and Camilla have had Fish and chips there and I can only recommend it. In the summer the queues are out the door and around the corner. in winter we were seated in no time and tucked into the traditional. Tea and bread and butter are included, really good value too. If you can fit it in there is also the amazing ice cream shop right next door. I dare you.

Be early. Wear something comfortable. Be prepared to go through security (no liquids, laptops out). Be aware of weight and size limits of the airline for checked luggage as well as carry on luggage. Always be prepared for delays, make Sure you have a buffer window for what ever is happening after you land. For example, plenty of time to get your rental car or for the people picking you up. Make sure if your renting a car it's big enough for all your needs (I.e. luggage, not just peoole)
