Located 8 kilometers south of the central business district of Las Vegas, it is serving as a hub for Great Lakes Airlines, also a focus city for Allegiant Air and Southwest Airlines. Handling more than 39 million passengers annually, McCarran International airport ranks the 22nd in the world for passenger traffic, after airports such as London Heathrow Airport, Frankfurt Airport, and Madrid Barajas Airport.

Car rental at Las Vegas airport is on high demand thanks to its flexibility and convenience, besides some of the best sights are located outside Las Vegas and you will need to drive to reach these destinations. It's quite easy to drive downtown in a rental car from Las Vegas airport, for you can already see “The Strip” from the airport and you won't miss the city center simply by following the neon lights. The rates of car rental at Las Vegas airport are highly competitive compared to those in many other major US cities. There is a full range of companies that offer car rental at Las Vegas airport at the McCarran Rent A Car Center, a single off-airport facility served by frequent shuttle buses, including Alamo/ National, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Sixt, Thrifty, etc. At Exit 10 and 11 a free shuttle bus can take you to the car rental center. I find that renting a car through Holiday Cars.com is much cheaper than renting from the car rental company itself. I use Holiday Cars every time I travel and have never had a problem with them.

Casinos are charging for parking, so make sure to include that in your trip budget. Try to book a breakfast-included hotel and save some money on food and resort fees (you will need a car if yo do this). Drive to Red Rock Canyon, just 30+ minutes from Vegas - amazing place. Drive to Mount Charleston. Drive to Grand Canyon Skywalk area. Beautiful road trip.

The most important tip is to find your car in Holiday cars! You can find the best deals on line. Definitely, having a car in Vegas gives you the opportunity of visiting a large number of places in less time. I would advise to look for the parking spots that are free, because some hotels charge 7 bucks or more for an hour. However, there are some places free of charge, where you can park and walk to several places from there. Having a car also gives you the plus of visiting the two outlet malls near Vegas. If you decide to take a taxi to go there, it will be way more expensive!

Allow ample time for dropping off your car and getting to the airport. It's a fair distance from the rental building to the airport. There are plenty of gas stations open 24hrs. within the "required" 5 miles of the airport to gas up at all hours. They do require you save the receipt and bring it in or else they will charge you for additional gas. They keep the receipt! The airport is easy to get around in and has lots of venues for eating and shopping.

1. Plan ahead. 2. Give yourself plenty of time to check a car in before your flight. 3. If you are traveling with children and want to relax by a pool after a long drive, don't pick a hotel on the Las Vegas strip, Most pools close at 5:00 pm. 4. If on a budget, or just staying overnight, pick a hotel that is not a resort. Hotels don't have a resort tax. 5. Find out if the hotel or resort charges for overnight parking. 6. Make sure that the hotel clock is set at the correct time. We almost missed a flight because we were using the room clock instead of our phone clock.

Las Vegas airport is easy to get in and out of. The major rental car companies are located at a rental garage which is off the airport property but buses run continuously from the airport to that rental garage. Some of the smaller companies like fox are not part of that rental garage and additional transportation from the rental garage to the other lot is required . Bring your patience as it takes a little while to get through the rental car line.

If staying on the strip, check out a monorail pass. The monorail provides easy access all along the strip. You can use the 24 hour pass once you have had your fill of walking. Play the blackjack machines so you don't lose money so quickly and can get some free drinks. Get to the buffets early. The lunch buffets are usually cheaper than the dinner ones. If you go inbetween the breakfast and lunch times, you can enjoy both sets of food.

First and for most take time to talk to some locals that live around the area to find out the best places to visit, eat, drink, shop and gamble. Their tips could save you a lot of money.. When visiting any of the casinos "on the strip" call ahead and ask about casino self parking, because some of them are now charging a fee to park in their garage. But also some are not charging a fee. Visit and drive thru The Red Rock Canyon and before or after visit the Red Rock Casino and their Feast Buffet, the best for the price in Las Vegas. For the Beer Lovers stop at the Yard House in the casino, they have "OVER 200+ BEERS ON TAP Daily" simply amazing!! Visit Boulder Dam and the New Bridge near the dam. On the way to or from Bolder Dam stop at Bolder City for lunch or dinner at one of their great cafes, bars and restaurant.. Also don't forget to visit OLD VEGAS and the Fremont Street Experience, simply amazing!

Renting a car makes seeing the sights much easier. Although parking on the strip is a very big challenge. Ease of renting the car was great including transportation to and from the airport was fast. We went in the summer, it was very very busy. I would suggest going a different time of year. Lots of children was unexpected, especially running around at midnight on the strip. Expect to pay more for everything and hotels don 't provide coffee in the morning and room service charges an extra fee. Unless you use valet parking, expect to park before you check in, you can't park in the entrance anymore and check in sometimes takes a long time. Do go to the stratosphere bar at sunset, they offer 2 for 1 drinks and half price appetizers, try the cheese plate, from 5-7, views are amazing. We ate dinner there too and it was excellent, although it is expensive, but worth it. Don't eat at Spago, got a vegetable frittata for lunch, it was $15, it probably cost 50cents to make and tasted like it. Their pizza looked good and husband enjoyed his hash. Overall, although very hot, it was nice to see the different hotels on the strip and downtown was very cool, also. They have live music on Friday and Saturday. Make sure you see container park, too, there downtown, they have live music on the weekend, too. Having not been in Vegas for 20 years it was still a great experience and worth going.

A great place to rest and relax away from home. Lots of golf courses to choose from, and entertainment galore. When you land at the airport, make sure you ask which terminal you are deplaning at, and which terminal your baggage will be taken. I went to Baggage Claim at terminal 1, and my luggage went to baggage claim at Terminal 3. The trams can be confusing if you are not familiar with the airport.

Call ahead and have them explain where they are located across from the main car rental building. Tell guests to take the shuttle located to the left of the exit doors.

Always plan your trip when driving. Know your route before getting in the vehicle. When you are unsure where you are going, Don't be embarrassed to ask!! Practically everyone is willing to help you out. Always follow directions that use streets names and freeway designation numbers (not names) and exit numbers. Never use points of interest. They always change.

I go to Las Vegas quite often. But if you were a tourist. I would suggest getting on groupon to buy discounted meals and show tickets and other attractions such as the Grand Canyon. Tix4tonite is also a good place to get up to 50% off on show tickets. Stay away from buffets. Are you really going to get your money's worth at one. Kahunaville Hawaiian restaurant at Treasure Island is one of my favorites. Normally for a price of $34 to $45 on groupon I get dinner for two which includes an entree, salad and drink .

The old part of Vegas on Fremont is far more interesting and colorful than the "new" Strip area. However, many of the hotels on the Strip are a must to see, including the Bellagio, Caesar's Palace, and even Circus Circus if you want some old-fashioned entertainment. We ate at an awesome brewery/restaurant called Chicago inside one of the old casinos on Fremont (above the Hugo restaurant). Amazing food and service. The bus is definitely a good way to see the city and very reasonably priced, but don't use it if you're in a hurry. Overall, we had a nice time.
