Pre-booking everything a month before, fast pasts to attractions, tickets to attractions, accomo and rentals. Surfers Paradise was central to pretty much everything and everything was pretty much at walkable distance. I recommend hiring a motor scooter to zoom around the beach paths to enjoy the view and smell the fresh ocean breeze

The airport is clean and easy to find your way around. There are plenty of places to get something to eat or drink, both inside an outside. Like any airport, there is always a queue for the women's toilet, but not for the men's, lol. The terminal is long, and baggage collection is at one end, and the shuttle buses to the offsite rental car companies or hotels are at the other end. However, it is a pretty easy walk from one end to the other, either internally (in air-conditioning) or on the footpath outside. Only issue was no-one in our family could connect to the airport wi-fi, and not sure why. It's also so easy and cheap to get public transport from the airport exits straight to Coolangatta or the rest of the Gold Coast.

Try indoor skydiving at the Gold Coast...it was incredible. Pack lightly because the weather is the same almost every day. Leave the kids ipads at home At Currumbin Sanctuary you can hire segways for the family Swim in the ocean as well as the pool. So much fun in the surf. kids had a ball. Bring a couple of shopping bags for the supermarket.

Plan the trips early and properly in relation to the weather forecast. Visit places where the locals go mostly. Do taste various foods of different nationality. Keep record of the trips like photographs and video.

If using a navigation service like google maps or apple maps, check the route that it is giving you for longer (5 hour +) trips. Sometimes it can take you down some pretty sketchy backroads and when in a big country like Australia you can get a bit nervous on your fuel levels. I suggest mapping to a closer destination which is on the way to take a break (and refuel) rather than just mapping to your end destination, this way you can be sure you are on the right track.

Book your car when you book your flight so its all timed perfectly and there no last minute panic attacks. Make sure you book a car large enough for your car and your luggage, you would be surprised how much room a family needs on holidays. Take a mountable car kit so you can use your maps device on your phone legally. Always dress in layers for plane rides you never know what temperature you will get. Beware of ATM skimmers overseas. Use combo locks for suitcases, nothing worse then loosing the keys!

The Gold Coast was a fantastic family holiday destination would hightly recommend it to anyone with a young family looking for plenty to do. We stayed at Turtle Beach Resort and what an absolute pleasure, if you have kids I would highly recomend staying there.

Take a short drive trip to Birubi beach! It's an amazing beach, not crownded and for who enjoys a little adventure can walk to the top of the hill on the left had side of the beach.

Theme parks for sure, no matter what age. Particularly dreamworld, movie world (best rides) and wet n wild ( in warmer weather). And just beach! Enough said.

Coolangatta is a great little airport, easy to drive in and out of. It's at the southern end of the Gold Coast away from the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise. Head south over the border for great surfing and fewer crowds.

Venturing inland to the national parks like lamington national park is a family friendly way to get away from the standard touristy things to do. The beaches before and after surfers are stunning and not crowded. Currumbin creek provides a great swimming area for little kids and stand up paddle boarding and learn to surf classes
