Alghero Airport

Alghero Airport, also known as Fertilia Airport, was built during WWII and used to be a military airport. Nowadays you will find arriving and departing flights from low fare airlines such as Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air. For more information on flights you can go to one of the information desks, which are located in the arrivals lounge, check-in area and departure lounge. Get your necessities, books and souvenirs in the various shops or enjoy a refreshment at the bar. Currently Alghero Airport is undergoing a renovation which results in a bigger variety of shops and improvement of parking possibilities. The airport is open from 4.00 am to the arrival or departure time of the last flight. Most of the car hire desks are located on-sight, so once you’ve landed you will be on the road in no time.

Get around with your rental car

Fertilia is the closest town to Alghero Airport, with only a 5 minute drive. The city centre of Alghero is located about 10 km from the airport, which you will reach in 15 minutes by driving in southerly direction and by following the SP44. Alghero - known as Italy’s Barceloneta (little Barcelona) - is a beautiful old town in the Sassari province. Explore the coral coast, long sandy beaches and the nice boulevard or get lost in the narrow streets and admire the little shops with local products.

The biggest highlight you will find in the area of Alghero is Grotta di Nettuno. The Neptuno’s Caves are only visible with a quiet ocean, so it’s smart to plan your visit. Are you a lover of beautiful sunsets? Make sure you don’t miss the rock formations of Capo Caccia. The easiest way to find your way through Alghero’s and Sardinia’s highlights is by car. Hire your car with and start exploring!

Parking Alghero

If you hire a car at Alghero Airport and you’re planning to visit the city of Alghero it is good to know about the parking possibilities. Close to the historical centre and the nicest part of Alghero you will find a few parking garages, which don’t cost much. Taking this into consideration, car rental is more than a reasonable option when visiting Alghero.

Alternative to Alghero Airport As an alternative to Alghero Airport you can also choose from two different airports on Sardinia. The first one is Olbia Airport, which is located on the north-east of the island. Second there’s Cagliari Elmas, which you will find in the north-west of Sardinia. Tips and experiences for Alghero airport

Our customers rated Alghero airport with an average of 9.2 based on 5 ratings, and these are the most recent tips, experiences and highlights.

Pack light. Leave some room for purchases! Learn key phrases ofnthe lamguage of your destination. Trying to communicate in the local language can go along way, even if it is a simple greating. Have one pair of comfortable shoes that go with many outfits. Download or print off all booking confirmations. Research and plan out an itinerary to make the most of your trip. Plans can always be changed if you find a better alternative! Research and select restuarants at your destination so you know where you can eat in those 'hangry' moments
Second driver was included in the contract but once we picked up the car we were informed that the contract allowed only one driver. The phone number provide to contact the car rental was wrong
The most important thing for Alghero is to always rent a car or scooter, as public transportation isn’t the best. I also recommend going to La Pelosa in Stinto. The water there was so clear and blue - absolutely stunning! Also, check out Capo Caccia at sunset for an amazing view. For food, my absolute favorite place was Pesce d’Oro in Alghero. The fish and pasta were so perfect. I also recommend walking around the old town in the evening just before or after dinner. It’s so lively, and you don’t need to worry about overheating in the afternoon sun.
Alghero airport has a surprising number of connections. The facilities are good. Transportation to Alghero itself is easy and only 1 euro! We rented a car three times from this location to make the drive to the incredible nature nearby and further afield to Gola di Gorropu in eastern Sardinia and also to Corsica. We were happy that there were no problems in bringing our rental car to Corsica aboard a ferry because car rentals there are considerably more expensive.
Use your rental car to discover all the beautiful places of Sardinia itself. Such as the impressive coastal road from Alghero to the south with magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea. The ancient cities and historical sites. But whatever you do and wherever you go: visit Piscinas Beach in the southwest of the island, reaching the most beautiful sandy beaches through a beautiful drive across the highest dunes of Europe!
