Nice enough airport and security and baggage reclaim were very fast and efficient. Shame the car rental is a walk off site with no clear signs. In the heat and pulling your suitcase, it would have been nicer to have it closer.

Ciampino is a regional but effective airport where also your first excellent espresso or "Capucci" is served. If you go by public transport to Rome be well informed, we had a hard time finding out how to get there (Bus only, bus/train what we did which was pleasant but took a while, bus/metro). Car rental is very close to the airport and we had an excellent experience with Trifty car rental. Rome is beautiful of course, do not focus only on the highlights, we liked Villa Borghese very much. As for outside Rome we loved the region Marche, beautiful and not very touristic (in may/june). Ascoli Piceno was a real highlight for us. We definitely go there again. Ciao Anne&Rene

The check-in process was smooth and absolutely not stressful. The staff are polite. Cons: airport is very small with only a few of stores inside. I also didn't find power sockets to charge my devices.

I highly recommend one of the city's underground carparks. €20 for 24 hours and right in the city centre.

Due to leak of parking places, don't go by car in the city centre. Those few are very expensive. Use public transportation, it is quite good organised. Besides historical monuments, don't miss Via Del Corso, main shopping destination.

Buy tickets before you go into the city and then you won't need to be queing in the hot sun for hours. If you plan to visit St.Peters basilica do so later in the day as there are less people there,so again less time queing to get through security.
